Maya's study, "Evaluating the ecological role of Damselfish species in the Galapagos Marine Reserve", will test the territory defense capacities of different damselfish species in a comparative analysis, and evaluate the importance of damselfish territories as a microhabitat and food resource. Calvin's study "Effects of grazer diversity and upwelling strength on ecosystem functioning in the Galapagos subtidal ecosystem" asks how variation in the richness and abundance of herbivores interacts with the upwelling of cold, nutrient-rich water to the surface (increasing primary productivity) to determine the richness, biomass, and resource utilization of benthic algae.

Congratulations to Maya and Calvin!

I would also like to congratulate these two, Maya Greenhill and Calvin Munson. Their studies are both exceptional and both are set in the Galapagos area, which is a place very rich in biodiversity and other people I know say that it is one of the world's most unusual ecosystems. These studies made by these two amazing undergraduate students will advance the knowledge of those who are living and who are taking care of the islands. I am glad that these students chose the Galapagos Marine Reserve as their topic. Again, congratulations!

Good to see that both students have qualified for the grands offered by the University, how can we apply for that if we want to take part in such things, I am a student of finance and tell me how can I apply.

Even while it can appear like the first step is the easiest, it's actually the most difficult
