The race consisted of a 200-meter swim in the open waters of Academy Bay, followed by a 5k run course that consisted of two loops between the dock and the Charles Darwin station entrance. It was spectacular to see how many local athletes came out to participate, including a strong showing from a local school’s triathlete training club (athletes between the ages of 9 and 16). The prize for the first overall female was a free dive trip, sponsored by local dive shop Galapagos Travellers. Fiona will be taking advantage of this prize sometime in the next few weeks, going out to Gordon Rocks for a dive.
This race was a fun, surprising find, and a great way to sharpen some competition skills before heading to Cozumel in a month.
