On the road, talking in support of the first Marine National Monuments in the Atlantic Ocean3/14/2016 At the Boston Sea Rovers show in Danvers, MA on March 5th, Professor Witman participated in a 3 part talk called "Cashes Ledge: Yellowstone of the North Atlantic." Priscilla Brooks opened the talk with a discussion about the current state of the effort to obtain Marine National Monument status for Cashes Ledge, followed by Professor Witman giving the scientific rationale for permanent protection, and finally Evan Kovacs, of the Advanced Imaging and Visualization Lab at WHOI, wrapping it up with a description of what it was like to dive amid the spectacular kelp forest. Mr. Kovacs showed some stunning macro video he shot in the kelp forest, in addition to the inspiring video created by Witman lab member, Robbie Lamb, to help make the case for Cashes Ledge as a Marine National Monument. |
